SCMG Signs

SCMG Signs

Last month Station Motel Parkes became the last Southern Cross Motel Group property to have its official SCMG branded sign installed. A Southern Cross Motel Group sign is a promise of a nice clean room, service with a smile and great food – all at a fair rate! Whether you’re travelling to Mackay, Junee or anywhere in between keep your eyes peeled for our navy and white street sign and the Southern Cross symbol welcoming you to one of our properties.

Meet the Managers

Meet the Managers

Nick and Sharon have been living in Narrabri and working at the Adelong Motel for over 18 months and love the fast pace of the property, its exceptional reputation and the opportunity to meet and bond with travellers from all walks of life.

Nick and Sharon have been working in the motel management industry for over 6 and a half years now but originally come from backgrounds as a beauty therapist and cabinet maker, respectively. They have a 12-year-old son named Mitch and enjoy going camping as a family on their breaks (recently, they spent an amazing week camping on Moreton Island!).

While reasonably new to Narrabri their favourite parts of the region are its perfect mix of stunning natural scenery and charming boutique-lined streets. Personally, they aprreciate the wonderful bushwalking trails through the national parks and the stunning scenery of Sawn Rocks and Mount Kaputar.

Next time you’re staying at Adelong Motel or enjoying a drink and bite to eat at Café Cotton make sure to say hello!

Merlo Coffee

Merlo Coffee

As two born and bred Australian enterprises, Southern Cross Motel Group and Merlo Coffee share a passion for quality products and exceptional customer experience.

Merlo Coffee was founded by Dean Merlo in Brisbane in 1992 with the Merlo family having already been credited with first introducing Queensland to the European tradition of espresso 30 years earlier. Dean’s Grandfather migrated from Italy to Mackay in 1950 with his family and eventually settled in Brisbane, where his eldest Son, Gino, opened Café Milano in Queen Street Mall in 1960. With a La San Marco espresso machine front and centre, Gino taught Dean all he knew about coffee and hospitality. 25 years on Merlo has gone from selling 200 cups of coffee a day from a single store in Queen Street Mall in Brisbane, to supplying freshly roasted coffee to almost 2000 shops around Australia – and we are 7 of their regional locations!

The best coffee beans are sourced from around the world and roasted daily in Brisbane and Melbourne so that the product we provide to all our guests, whether up north in Mackay or down south in Parkes, is always fresh and full of flavour.

Buy a Bale with Southern Cross Motel Group

Buy a Bale with Southern Cross Motel Group

We are excited to announce that for the entire month of September the Southern Cross Motel Group will be fundraising for Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale Campaign.  With 11 properties in rural Queensland and New South Wales locations, this drought is taking its toll on the families and farmers of our very own communities.

As a group our goal is to raise funds to provide two trucks of hay feed, one each to be freighted to QLD and NSW farms in need. And we need your help to meet this goal!  Throughout the month of September we are asking our past and future guests to help us by giving whatever you can – all donations, big and small, will contribute to much needed resources to drought-affected areas.

If you’d like to donate through us you will find donation boxes at our reception desks and restaurants.  Each of our properties will also be hosting their own fundraising efforts throughout September so keep your eye on our Facebook pages for all the details and join us in supporting our fellow regional Australians and the farmers who support us!
