While a good road trip can be feast for your eyes, it can also be a feast, literally. With so many bespoke Wineries and other Gourmet producers popping up everywhere the possibilities can seem endless.  And that’s where our friends at Visit NSW come in. They have quite a selection of different Drives, and the great thing is you can get a few ideas and take it from there. We looked at a little 4-day drive – The Food Lovers Road Trip.

Firstly, it takes you from Sydney to Hawkesbury, an area that inlcudes boutique establishments like the Ironbark Gin Distillery and the Hillbilly Cider Distillery. Next stop Lithgow and time to revel in the majestic landscape and take in all the grand views. On the drive to Mudgee stop off at the Jannei Goat Dairy if goat’s cheese is to your liking or try the High Valley Cheese Company in Mudgee for artisan crafted cheeses made with local milk.  Then as you head to Cessnock and Pokolbin, get some fresh olives from the Olive Grove at Pukara Estate in Muswellbrook. And now with a car full of gourmet delights, you’re ready for the multitude of Wineries that make up the world-famous Hunter Valley.

But here’s the great thing, you can take all the details and reverse them. Head north from Sydney, hang a left at Newcastle and start in the Hunter. In that case you just stock-up on your wines and start what Hemingway would call, your moveable feast!
