Get to Know Our Group General Manager – Sean Fitzgerald

Leading Southern Cross Motel Group, Sean brings over 35 years of hospitality and facilities experience to the team. He is passionate about people, service excellence, and strengthening regional hospitality across our 16 properties throughout Australia.

1. What is your name and role within Southern Cross Motel Group?

My name is Sean Fitzgerald, and I am the Group General Manager at Southern Cross Motel Group. My role focuses on supporting our properties, operational teams, and managers to ensure we consistently deliver exceptional guest experiences while continuing to grow and strengthen the group.

2. How long have you worked in the hospitality and facilities industry, and what first inspired you to pursue a career in it?

I have worked in the hospitality and facilities industry for over 35 years.

What first inspired me was the people. Hospitality is one of the few industries where you can genuinely make a positive impact on someone’s day — whether it’s through a great meal, excellent service, memorable experiences, or simply making someone feel welcome and valued.

I was also drawn to the fast-paced and dynamic nature of the industry, where no two days are ever the same.

3. What do you enjoy most about leading and supporting the Southern Cross Motel Group team?

What I enjoy most is seeing people grow and succeed.

We have an incredibly dedicated and hardworking group of professionals across all our properties, and it is very rewarding to work alongside people who genuinely care about delivering great guest experiences.

4. What is your vision for the future of Southern Cross Motel Group?

My vision is continued growth while maintaining the strong guest service culture and high standards that define who we are.

I want Southern Cross Motel Group to continue building its reputation as a trusted accommodation group known for exceptional guest experiences, operational excellence, and supportive leadership.

Most importantly, I want every guest who stays with us to feel genuinely welcomed and cared for, no matter which property they visit.

5. What is one thing you believe sets Southern Cross Motel Group apart from others in the industry?

I believe what sets us apart is our commitment to personalised service and our pride in regional hospitality.

Guests are never just booking numbers, they are welcomed as valued visitors to the community. Our teams consistently go above and beyond to ensure guests feel comfortable, cared for, and appreciated.

It is the combination of high-quality presentation, professional service standards, and authentic country warmth that creates a lasting impression.

6. What do you enjoy most about working with the property managers and teams across the group?

The people.

Our managers and teams are passionate, hardworking, and welcoming. There is a strong sense of teamwork across the group, and everyone takes pride in their property and their local community.

It is incredibly rewarding to work with people who genuinely care about their guests and support each other to deliver the best possible experience.

7. What do you love most about the communities and regions our properties are located in?

What I love most is the friendliness and sense of connection you find in regional Australia.

Every town has its own character, stories, and welcoming atmosphere. There is a real pride in country communities, and we are fortunate to work alongside local businesses, organisations, and people who genuinely support one another.

It creates a great environment for both our teams and our guests.

8. Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy to help you unwind?

I really enjoy spending time outdoors whenever I can.

Fishing and camping are two of my favourite ways to unwind, especially in regional bush and rainforest areas where you can truly appreciate nature.

I also enjoy spending quality time with my family whenever time permits — whether that’s getting away for a weekend or simply relaxing together.

9. If guests were to remember one thing about Southern Cross Motel Group and your leadership, what would you hope it is?

I would hope guests remember Southern Cross Motel Group for delivering exceptional service with genuine care and professionalism.

More importantly, I would hope they remember how our teams made them feel — welcomed, respected, and truly valued.

From a leadership perspective, I would like to be remembered for creating a culture where people, quality service, and country hospitality always come first.
